The Little Oratory is a fellowship of men and women who promote the spirituality of the Oratory amongst the laity.
The first Little Oratory was formed by St. Philip Neri, and was made up of young men who went to Confession to him at the church of San Girolamo in Rome. They would meet in his room there for prayer and recreation, and for daily Mass and Confession. They visited the hospitals daily and also made the pilgrimage of the Seven Churches together. Their devout and recollected demeanour converted many. Upon the arrival of the Oratory to Britain, St. John Henry Newman approved the exercises to be adapted for the use in Birmingham. These customs have also been edited to meet the needs of those who live in Cardiff.
In modern times, the members of the Little Oratory still meet up for prayer and the exercises of the Oratory. The member is given a directory of the Little Oratory and the Maxims of St. Philip Neri. Currently there are thirteen members of the Little Oratory in Cardiff.
The Little Oratory is open to all Catholics over the age of 18. If you are interested in joining please speak to a member of the community or email admin@cardifforatory.co.uk
