Sacramental Preparation at St Alban’s, Cardiff
Catechesis is a vital part of the Church’s mission, especially in the formation of children. It is through catechesis that the faith is passed on, not just as knowledge, but as a living relationship with Jesus Christ. Children are naturally open to wonder and truth; catechesis nurtures that openness, helping them to understand that they are loved by God and called to follow Him. “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” (Matthew 19:14) By learning the prayers, stories, and teachings of the Church, they begin to build the foundation of a lifelong faith that will sustain them through every stage of life.
This year, our parish is introducing a new program from Dynamic Catholic called Blessed. It is a beautifully designed and engaging catechetical series created especially for children preparing for First Reconciliation and First Communion. Through vivid storytelling, animation, and relatable lessons, Blessed helps children not only learn about the sacraments but truly fall in love with them. The program encourages families to grow together in faith, turning preparation for the sacraments into a shared spiritual journey.
With Blessed, we hope to make catechesis an experience of joy and encounter, helping the young ones to see that the faith is not just something to study, but something to live, celebrate, and treasure for a lifetime.
