Thanks to the generosity of the National Lottery Community Fund, a grant of £9,963 will allow the Fathers and Brothers of the Cardiff Oratory, together with the parishioners of St. Alban’s-on-the-Moors Catholic Church in Splott, Cardiff, to renovate their Parish Hall kitchen to provide a weekly hot meal for the needy and elderly in Splott, Tremorfa, and Adamsdown.
After extensive consultation earlier this year, it was agreed it would be very important to reach out to the people of communities surrounding the Oratory, especially once it became clear this winter’s energy and food costs would lead to serious issues for residents throughout the local area. When news of the closure of the major charity shop in Tremorfa came, all agreed it was time to act.
Thanks to help from Miss Nadine Salter at the Archdiocese of Cardiff, who assisted the Oratorians in assembling the grant application, the community was able to make their case for help to ensure adequate and safe facilities in St. Alban’s Hall, so it would be possible for volunteers and the Oratorians to welcome vulnerable guests to a weekly hot meal.
The Oratory’s Winter Lunch Club runs 1st October through 28th February in Swinton Street, Splott (CF24 2NT). To attend a meal, to volunteer, or for more information, contact the Oratory on 02920 463219 or email admin@cardifforatory.co.uk.
