Bible Study – St. Luke

The Gospel according to St. Luke, together with the Acts of the Apostles, offers one of the most distinctive voices in the New Testament. Often called the “Gospel of Mercy,” Luke emphasises God’s compassion for the poor, the marginalized, and sinners. His narrative reveals Christ as the Saviour who comes not only for Israel but for all nations, and who calls His disciples to carry the Good News to the ends of the earth.
This course will explore the literary, theological, and historical dimensions of Luke’s writings, with special attention to recurring themes such as mercy, prayer, and the work of the Holy Spirit. Particular focus will be given to Luke’s portrait of Christ as the compassionate physician of souls and the fulfilment of God’s promises.
Our study aims not only at academic understanding but also at pastoral application. By becoming more attentive to Luke’s distinctive and theological messages, we will be better equipped to recognise and reflect upon these themes when the Gospel of Luke is proclaimed in the liturgy. In this way, the study of Luke becomes a preparation of the heart as well as the mind, allowing us to hear God’s Word more deeply at Mass and to live it more faithfully in our daily lives.
