SUMMARY:A Catholic view of Western Philosophy
DESCRIPTION:The history of Western philosophy is more than a chronicle of how people thought; it is a continuous conversation about the deepest questions of human existence\, what is truth\, goodness\, beauty\, justice\, and the destiny of the human person. From the ancient Pre-Socratic search for the fundamental principles of reality\, through the systematic reasoning of Plato and Aristotle\, to the Christian synthesis of Augustine and Aquinas\, philosophy has provided both the vocabulary and the framework by which cultures have sought to understand the world and humanity’s place within it. \nIn studying this tradition from a Catholic perspective\, we will pay special attention to the dialogue between faith and reason. The Catholic intellectual tradition does not dismiss philosophy as merely human speculation\, nor does it collapse theology into philosophy. Instead\, it sees philosophy as a natural aid to theology: reason illuminated by faith and faith purified by reason. We will see how classical philosophy can be elevated and fulfilled in the light of Revelation\, while later thinkers\, from the medieval scholastic to modern Catholic philosophers\, show how this dialogue continues to shape the Church’s witness in every age. This course will therefore approach Western philosophy not only as an academic discipline\, but also as a way to see how philosophy has informed Catholic thought\, culture\, and spirituality. \nWeek 3: The Form of the Good\nA study of Plato’s dialogues\, focusing on the theory of Forms and the philosopher’s understanding of ultimate reality and the Good.

SUMMARY:Bible Study - St. Luke
DESCRIPTION:The Gospel according to St. Luke\, together with the Acts of the Apostles\, offers one of the most distinctive voices in the New Testament. Often called the “Gospel of Mercy\,” Luke emphasises God’s compassion for the poor\, the marginalized\, and sinners. His narrative reveals Christ as the Saviour who comes not only for Israel but for all nations\, and who calls His disciples to carry the Good News to the ends of the earth. \nThis course will explore the literary\, theological\, and historical dimensions of Luke’s writings\, with special attention to recurring themes such as mercy\, prayer\, and the work of the Holy Spirit.  Particular focus will be given to Luke’s portrait of Christ as the compassionate physician of souls and the fulfilment of God’s promises. \nOur study aims not only at academic understanding but also at pastoral application. By becoming more attentive to Luke’s distinctive and theological messages\, we will be better equipped to recognise and reflect upon these themes when the Gospel of Luke is proclaimed in the liturgy. In this way\, the study of Luke becomes a preparation of the heart as well as the mind\, allowing us to hear God’s Word more deeply at Mass and to live it more faithfully in our daily lives.  \nWeek 3: The Infancy Narrative\nLuke’s unique account of Christ’s birth\, with emphasis on theological symbolism\, Our Lady’s role\, and the universal scope of salvation
